Group Captain Narayanaswamy Sundarajan was commissioned in Dec 61 and has held various field, training and staff appointments. In all these appointments, the has excelled himself. Since July 1985 the has been functioning as the Chief Administrative officer of a large training station.

The Chief Admin Officer of this station has the unenviable task of managing a population of 12000 spread over 1500 acres of land located in three different camps. Further, it is the only station where advanced flying training for flying instructors and technical training for airmen are bringing about cohesion and harmony to ensure accomplishment of tasks is indeed a very challenging one which calls for total dedication, integrity and professional competence of the highest order. This officer has executed this responsibility with admirable competence and leadership qualities and ensured an administration which had earned the appreciation of all visiting dignitaries.

During Nov 85 when Madras was hit by a severe cyclone and life in the city stopped paralysed for weeks, this officer worked round the clock to ensure that the essential services in the Air Force Station were maintained throughout.

By his unstinted and invaluable effort hard work and total dedication Group Captain N Sundarajan has set an example worthy of emulation and inspired the entire staff at the station, including the MES, to face any future challenges.

For his personal dedication and exemplary contribution to the provision of administrative activities at the Station his laudable professional competence the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Narayanaswamy Sundarajan.

Wing Commander SS Gunashekar (13487) AE (M) was commissioned in AE (M) Branch of the IAF on 02 Jul 73. He is posted as the Chief Engineering Officer of Air Force Station Tambaram with effect from 14 Nov 94.

Whole hearted technical support for the flying operations of this Station has been the hall mark of this Officer. The effective interface provided by him with HAL personnel directly contributed to high aircraft serviceability which has been the lifeline of scheduled flying operations. The stupendous average of 80% serviceability rate for Kiran and Deepak aircraft ensured timely completion of courses through unhindered and accident free flying training operations. As a leader par excellence, he established excellent inter-personal relationship at all levels and motivated his work force to achieve highest quality, productivity and accident free flying operations. A fitting reflection of this is the award of Flight and Maintenance Safety Trophy to this Station consecutively for the last two years by HQ Training Command, IAF.

The maintenance practices instituted by him ensured a good road safety record and high average MT serviceability rates of 98% and 95% for specialist and common user vehicles respectively. He master minded an indigenous repair of the cooling unit of Ashok Leyland CFT which saved invaluable time and Rs. 98,000/- in foreign exchange. Similarly, dedication of a manufacturing defect in Eicher Canter Coach led to free rectification by the dealer which resulted in a saving of Rs. 40,000/-. In addition, he directly contributed to a high serviceability rate of above 95% in communication, radio and navigational aids. His inspirational leadership and active involvement in the welfare activities of the Station are exemplary.

For distinguished service of a high order, the President is pleased to award "Vishisht Seva Medal" to Wing Commander SSR Gunashekar.

Group Captain Har Kamal Jeet Singh Sokhey (15858) F (P) was commissioned as a Pilot on 14 Dec 79 in Fighter stream. He is an experienced Pilot with over 5135 h of accident free flying on various Fighter, Trainer and Transport aircraft. During his 27 years of service career, he has held the important appointments of CO of a Fighter Squadron and Chief Operations Officer (COO) of a fighter base. He has also been on staff at TACDE. He is an A-2 QF1, a Pilot Attack Instructor and an alumnus of DSSC and Higher Command Courses. He has also served on deputation to Government of Botswana for three years. Presently he has dual responsibility of CO of Flying Instructors' School (FIS) and Chief Operations Officer of Air Force Station Tambaram since 20 Apr 05.

Under his command FIS has seen a sea change in terms of infrastructure, technology and training enhancement. He has worked tirelessly to create an informal but regimented atmosphere with constant monitoring of trainee QFIs, resulting in good performance and overall development. This has been achieved with nil accident and human error incident. He has been instrumental in formulation of a new training pattern at FIS which includes simulator flying, which would be immensely beneficial to the Air Force in the coming years.

As the COO of the base, he has ensured a high standard of safety and maintenance of allied services for flying. In addition requirements towards flood relief operations in Chennai region and catering for strike at civil airport were handled in a professional manner.

From 13 Mar to 02 Apr 07, a joint exercise was planned in Chennai region at a very short notice. Due to inadequacies of operating environment at the planned destination, Tambaram agreed to provide the entire operational and administrative conduct of exercise from Tambaram airfield. Gp Capt Sokhey took initiative and coordinated the operational requirements in a professional manner whereby the Special Forces were able to train and complete entire exercise as planned. Later from 20th to 22nd April 07, he was the overall coordinator for lAF's Platinum Jubilee air display, AWDT and AWSO program at Tambaram and Marina Beach. The mammoth task involved coordination with TN State and other multiple agencies. He with his composure managed and coordinated the entire function in a befitting manner. His positive approach and enthusiasm has not only helped the outside agencies to be completely satisfied, but also has raised the morale of all personnel under him. For his distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Har Kamal Jeet Singh Sokhey.
